Alice B. “Pearl” Steele, 89, of Washington, died on Sunday, January 22, 2012, in the Washington Hospital.
She was born on August 21, 1922, in Washington, a daughter of the late Joseph and Leona Ross Bennett.
A 1941 graduate of Trinity High School, she was a former member of West Washington United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Steele had worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone, she had also worked at G.C. Murphy, C & E Imports, in Sterling, VA, and was the owner and operator of a Floral and Card and Gift Shop, in Alexandria, VA.
She enjoyed traveling and working her jigsaw puzzles.
On October 9, 1942, she married Albert E. Steele, Sr., a U.S. Army Veteran, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, A. Edward (Linda) Steele, Jr., of Lake Frederick, VA; 2 daughters, Donna S. (Jerry) Pyne, of Malvern, PA and Alice Marie (Larry) George, of Washington; 7 grandchildren, Ed and Scott Steele, Christine McKinnon, Vanessa and Michelle Pyne, and Larry and Alice Diane George; and 7 great grandchildren.
Deceased are 2 brothers, Rowland and Billy Bennett.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2012, with Father Michael McKinnon officiating.
Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens.
