Andrew Pasqualla, Jr., 88, passed away peacefully in the arms of his family, at the Washington Hospital, on Friday, February 17, 2012.
He was born on July 21, 1923, in Bentleyville, a son of Andrew, Sr., and Virginia Biscardi Pasqualla, and resided on Dutch Glory Rd., in Amity, for over 50 years.
Mr. Pasqualla was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, in Glyde.
He was a 1941 graduate of the Conlay Trade School.
A retired electrician with Sargent Electric, he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical workers, Union 712, for over 65 years.
Mr. Pasqualla was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946, as a Technician Fourth Grade. He served with the 43rd Engineers Construction Battalion in the South Pacific, Battle of Mortai, Battle of Philippines and Yocohama, Japan. His Battalion was cited by President Roosevelt for exceptional service. For his service, he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, with 2 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, with 1 Bronze Star, and the Good Conduct Medal.
A lifetime member of the Glyde American Legion, Post 897, he was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 191, Canonsburg, and the Moose Lodge.
He was an avid golfer, having 5 holes-in-one during his lifetime. He played in the Holy Name Senior League, Highland Springs, WV, playing on numerous courses, especially Maggie’s Golf Course.
Mr. Pasqualla loved to travel, enjoyed riding trains, having ridden most all of the steam trains throughout the United States. A very mechanically inclined person, he loved to invent things. In fact, over 50 years ago, he was extremely close to having a patent design on a log splitter.
He enjoyed playing cards with Scott and Dave, attending Vegas Nights and Night at the Races events at various organizations, loved playing checkers with Jr., and Little Harold, and he loved to dance, always being able to count on Linda Garner for a dance at different occasions. He also had a love for baseball, and enjoyed the Pirates, but it was his grandson, Harold who he really enjoyed watching. He rarely missed a baseball game, and also loved watching him play football and wrestle.
Andrew will be greatly missed during baseball season, and the holidays, especially Christmas.
In 1946, he married Mildred Fryer, who died on November 1, 1980
Surviving are 4 daughters, Betty Bauer, Carol (Clive) Bullard, Sandra (Larry) Roberts and Terry (Harold) McCutcheon; 11 grandchildren, Pam (Tom) Reese, Tammy (Jimmy) Johnson, Jack Bauer, Jr., Natasha Bullard, Rebecca Bullard, Shane (Meggan) Pasqualla, Domingo Pasqualla, Larry Roberts, Jr., Kimberly (Marty) Louk, Tracy (Fred) Moore, and Harold McCutcheon, III; 19 great grandchildren, and a sister, Mary Tirpak.
Deceased are 2 sons, Andrew Phillip and Gene Christopher Pasqualla; 2 sisters, Anne Close and Louise Kirchner, and a brother, Anthony Pasqualla.
Friends will be received on Sunday, from 7 to 9 and Monday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held on Tuesday, at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Peter Asplin officiating.
Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Military Rites accorded graveside by the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
