Howard S. “Lovey” Conn, 95, of Washington, died Sunday, February 26, 2012, in the Washington Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born January 7, 1917, in Washington, a son of Howard and Pearl Edith Sargent Conn.
Mr. Conn was a private in the United States Army, 651st Engineers Topography Battalion in Texas. Before entering the Army, he was a crane operator at the Tin Mill.
He owned and operated Conn’s Service Station on Route 40 in Claysville for many years. He then sold real estate for West Realty in Washington and Greene Counties. Mr. Conn also managed apartment buildings in the Pittsburgh area for many years and retired from The Park Mansions of Pittsburgh, a condominium complex where Mister Rogers lived.
Since 1938, Mr. Conn was a devoted and loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He spent many hours “discussing” the game and the players with his beloved sister Mary.
He formerly attended Friendship Community Church and was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
The last of his immediate family, he was affectionately known as “brother” to his sisters and brothers.
He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.
On February 10, 1944, he married his sweetheart, Beatrice Noble, who survives. She was the love of his life and they spent 72 years together.
Also surviving are a son, Michael D. (Olive) Conn of Washington; two daughters, Linda (Bob) Burgh of Washington and Wendy (David) Stockdale of Prosperity; seven grandchildren, Edward (Becky) Burgh, Susan (Ronald) Corrado, and Christopher (Jennifer) Stockdale, all of Washington, Benjamin (Brandi) Stockdale of Pensacola, Florida, Joseph (Wendy) Ayre of Avella, Pamela King and Heidi Stellavato, both of Washington; 11 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a daughter, Helen “Connie” Seibel; a great-grandchild, Robert Sheldon Burgh; and seven sisters and brothers, Alice Milligan, Ruth Harvey, Dorothy Hartge, Mary Hast, Sherman Conn, Esther Huggins and Ivan Conn.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 29th, with Pastor Rick Bruckner officiating.
