Jack Ashley O’Brien, 80, of Washington, Sunday, February 26, 2012, in his residence.
He was born July 17, 1931, in Washington, a son of Francis P. and Gladys Wilma Heiney O’Brien.
Mr. O’Brien was a 1949 graduate of Washington High School. During the Korean War, he served in the Navy in the Mediterranean Sea.
Mr. O’Brien worked as an engineer at Southern Bell for 32 years.
He enjoyed working with his hands and building things with his brothers.
Mr. O’Brien was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
On June 12, 1953, he married Verna Louise Harter, who died April 8, 2005.
Surviving are a son, Frank Ashley (Tracy) O’Brien of West Palm Beach, Florida; a daughter, Kellie Jean (Russell) Baird of Prosperity; a brother, Francis Patrick O’Brien III of Washington; five grandchildren, Joelle Baird, Jacqueline Hyland Heath, Rachel Hyland Hastings, Ashley Ann O’Brien and Megan Helaine O’Brien; and a great-grandchild, Faith Hastings.
Deceased are a son, Daniel Clark O’Brien; a brother, Richard Keith O’Brien; and two sisters, Lois Garbart, and an infant sister who died at birth.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 1, 2012, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 775 North Main St., Washington, with Rev. Dr. Anne Woodman-Howe officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church on Thursday morning.
