Joseph W. Bennington – Of Chicago, formerly of Joliet, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2012. Age 81 years.
Survived by his wife Mary Ann Bennington (nee Pickens) of Chicago, his brother Glenn Bennington, Jr. of Washington, PA. his sister Helen Rohm of York, PA. and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents and a sister Elizabeth Hennen.
Joseph was born December 22, 1930 to Glenn and Grace Bennington in Washington, PA. He married his beloved wife Mary Ann on July 8, 1954. Joseph was a devoted husband and avid theater buff. He taught English in the Joliet school system for 32 years. He loved traveling, his church family and the theater. He was a member of the Chicago First Church of the Nazarene. He loved his “adopted” grandchildren Andrea Martin-Oelger and Amie Martin-Weethee, the O’Brien children, Samantha, Judy and Vanessa who called him “Papa” After retiring from the school Joseph worked part-time for 20 years at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago in various positions, but most recently he was Front Office Manager and Tour Guide. Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 5th, at the chapel in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
