Carolyn Louise Jeffers, 76, of Washington, died Thursday, March 1, 2012, in the Washington Hospital. She had been in declining health the past five weeks.
She was born November 18, 1935, in Washington, a daughter of the late Pete and Elizabeth “Betty” Durbin McWhorter.
Mrs. Jeffers graduated from Washington High School in 1953. Immediately after graduation, she went to work for Bell Telephone Company. She then worked at Sears in various departments for 20 years before retiring from Mayview State Hospital, where she had worked as a psychiatric aid for 5 years.
Mrs. Jeffers was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Houston.
She was an avid reader, an avid Steelers fan, and enjoyed being with her grandchildren and going to the Meadows Casino.
On September 24, 1955, she married Arthur Eugene Jeffers Jr., who died March 8, 1994.
Surviving are a son, Arthur E. Jeffers III; three daughters, Debra Jeffers, Michelle (Mickey) Amos and Denise (Tracy) Spinnenweber; a brother, Russell McWhorter Jr.; a sister, Betty Lou Gontas, all of Washington; and four grandchildren, Michael Amos, Audra Spinnenweber, Abby Spinnenweber and Seth Spinnenweber.
Friends will be received Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, March 5th, with Rev. Clarejean Haury officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg. Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, 100 W Station Square Dr # 1900, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
