Alvin Lawrence Shade, 87, of South Franklin Township, died Friday, March 2, 2012, in Humbert Lane Health Care Center.
He was born August 27, 1924, in Spring Glenn, a son of Lawrence and Lena Morgan Shade.
Mr. Shade was a veteran of the Army.
Involved with the coal mining industry for 56 years, he was a coal miner before becoming a Federal Mine Inspector in 1974.
Mr. Shade enjoyed golf and watching baseball and the Steelers and formerly enjoyed hunting.
He was a member of Avery United Methodist Church.
On April 26, 1947, he married LaRae June Kissinger, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Rodney (Chris) Shade of Washington and Steven (Jeanette) Shade of Dover; three sisters, Marie Beard of Selins Grove, Martha Herb of Higgins, and Phyllis Siminitus of Pottsville; three grandchildren, Tracy Stitley, Tina Swords and Matthew Shade; and four great-grandchildren, Blake, Allyson, Brock and Kaylee.
Deceased are four brothers.
Friends will be received Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, March 6, from Noon to 1 p.m., the time of service, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Rev. Ruth Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
