Ruth Ellen Comfort, 67, of Washington, died on Monday, March 26, 2012, in the Donnell House, after a long struggle with cancer.
She was born On September 28, 1944 in Washington, a daughter of Joseph and Laura Standiford Comfort.
A graduate of Washington High School, she also received a degree from Penn Commercial Beauty School.
Ruth was a self-employed beautician for 25 years, worked at Viehmann’s Drug Store, Krency Bakery, Club 40, and had ran a small restaurant in Prosperity. Ruth retired from the Washington Hospital, after working for 10 years as a cook.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church,
Ms. Comfort was inducted into the Washington Bowlers Hall of Fame in 2007. She was also a member of the Tuesday Night Golf League, and President of Victoria Lodge #76.
She will always be remembered by her friends, as a “baker of cookies and homemade candies.” Ruth loved to cook and bake, and shared this with everyone. She was a very loving, caring friend to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are 2 brothers, Anthony A. (Carolyn) Comfort, of Washington, and Joseph D. (Barbara) Comfort, of Athens, GA; 3 nieces, 6 nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She will be missed by her 2 dogs, Muffins and Brooke.
Deceased are 2 brothers, William A. Comfort and Richard Comfort.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held on Friday, March 30, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Schott officiating.
Burial will follow at the Washington Cemetery
