Mary Frances Romano, 90, of Washington, died on Friday, March 30, 2012, in the Washington County Health Center, following a 7-year illness.
She was born on October 31, 1921, in Shinnston, WV, a daughter of Sam and Rosa Perry Were.
A homemaker, she had previously worked for 30 years at Davidson Cable Vulcanizing, as a cable splicer.
Her greatest joy was caring for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, and bowling, and was a member of the Wednesday Women’s Bowling League.
On June 24, 1939, she married Frank Romano, who died on May 10, 1997.
Surviving are a son, Phil (Jill) Romano, of Washington; a daughter, Grayce Martin, of Washington, 2 sisters, Esther Bellamo, of Detroit, MI and Eileen Romano, of Washington; 5 grandchildren, Michele Martin, Marcie (Jeff Blazevich) Smalley, Angela Putlitz, Christopher Romano and Tina Kay; 5 great grandchildren, Krista, Baleigh, Logan, Brialya and Landon; a great-great grandchild, John “Liam”, and several sisters in-law and brothers in-law.
Deceased are a sister, Theresa Were, and 2 brothers, Dick and John Were.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, from 1 to 8:00 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Hilary Church, on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., with Father Thomas O’Neil as celebrant.
Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery.
