Caught glory train to Heaven.
Elbert Earl Minor, 79, of Prosperity, died on Friday, March 30, 2012, in the Washington Hospital.
He was born on September 3, 1932, in Proctor, WV, a son of the late, Charles W. and Violet Allman Minor.
Mr. Minor had worked for Brockway Glass, and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Graysville, where he had been a Deacon for 32 years.
His main goal on earth was to tell people about our Lord Jesus Christ.
He had served with the U.S. Army, during the Korean War. For his service, he was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge and Korean Service Medal, with 4 bronze stars. He received an honorable discharge, as a sergeant, on November 15, 1952.
Mr. Minor enjoyed playing dartball, having won several trophies, while belonging to Greene County Dartball League. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, and had coached Ten Mile Valley baseball for Prosperity.
On December 25, 1953, he married Glenna Neely, who died on February 10, 1999.
Surviving are 3 sons, John Whipkey, Gary (Jill) Whipkey, and Ronnie (Janey) Minor, all of Washington; a daughter, Betty (Robert) Fisher, of Prosperity; 4 brothers, Herbert, Woody, Rocky and Bernard Minor; 4 sisters, Jody Richards, Dolores Mason, Joyce Hennen and Regina McKeniey; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
He also leaves behind his longtime companion, his cat, Kally.
Deceased are a son, Sam Whipkey; 2 bothers, Charles and Clarence Minor; 2 sisters, Sylvia Hinthorn and Hilda and a great grandson, Calob Gareis.
Friends will be received on Monday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9:00 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 E. Maiden St., Washington.
There will be additional visitation on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, from 11 to 1 p.m., in Beulah Baptist Church, Beulah Ridge Rd, Graysville, where services will be held immediately following at 1:00 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Harry A. Hill, Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery.
