Carl Joseph Nicolella, 94, of Washington, died Monday, April 2, 2012, in his residence.
He was born September 1, 1917, in Washington, a son of Antonio and Rosario D’Alessandro Nicolella.
Mr. Nicolella graduated from Washington High School. He had worked for Pennsylvania Department of Highways and as a route salesman for Nichols Bakery.
Mr. Nicolella was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and former member of the Independent Club and American Legion.
He served in the United States Army from November 24, 1942, until his honorable discharge on February 10, 1946, with a rank of staff sergeant. Mr. Nicolella’s awards include the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one bronze battle star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.
In 1957, he married Florence Marchione, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Carl S. (Dina) Nicolella of McMurray; a brother, Joseph Nicolella; a sister, Evelyn Cronin, both of Washington; a grandson, Carl Peter Nicolella; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, Patsy Nicolella; and three sisters, Angeline Greco, Carmella Greco and Sunda Mastrianni.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation or services. Memorial contributions may be made to Three Rivers Hospice, 1195 Jacks Run Road, North Versailles, PA 15137.
