View Video TributeJames Lawrence McCarren, Jr., 80, of Washington, died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 5, 2012, in the Washington Hospital.
He was born on August 6, 1931, in Pittsburgh, a son of Loretta McCarren.
A graduate of Central Catholic High School, he was a member of Miraculous Medal Church.
Mr. McCarren served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, with 2 bronze stars, United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged, as a Sergeant, on November 5, 1954.
He had worked as the service manager in the automotive department at Sears, until his retirement in 1987.
A member of the Holy Name Society, he received a life service award from the Pittsburgh Diocesan Union of Holy Name Society.
On August 16, 1952, he married Maria Rauso, who survives.
Also surviving are 2 sons, James L. (Judy) McCarren, III, of Washington and Larry (Sherry) McCarren, of Bridgeville; 2 daughters, JoAnne (Steven) Clay, of Tampa, FL, and Michele Foster, of Dallas, TX; 6 grandchildren, Chris, Mike, Josh and Jessica McCarren, and Billy and Tiffany Foster, and 4 great grandchildren.
Deceased is a brother, Richard McCarren.
Friends will be received on Monday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd, 925 Allison Ave., Washington.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, in Miraculous Medal Church.
Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 11th in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Military rites will be accorded graveside by the combined honor guard of VFW Post 191 and American Legion Post 902.
