Michael Angelo Sim

Michael Angelo Sim, 89, of Washington, died Friday, April 6, 2012, in Washington County Health Center. He was born November 8, 1922, in Washington, a son of Frank and Emma Comito Sim. A graduate of Washington High School, Mr. Sim worked at Hazel Atlas for 17 years and as a machinist at Jessop for 25 years. He was very mechanical and enjoyed fixing things. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his children and grandchildren and his dog, Susie. A World War II veteran, Mr. Sim served in the Army Air Forces, 569th Bombardier Squadron. During his service he was a B-17 Flying Fortress waist gunner and logged nearly 30,000 miles in the air offensive in Europe, including Normandy and Northern France. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with Three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, and a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged with a rank of Staff Sergeant on October 26, 1945. Mr. Sim was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. On June 9, 1951, he married Alma Jean Martin, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Michael Sim of Claysville and David Sim (Mary Lynn) of Washington; two daughters, Deborah Sim of Lawrence and Cynthia Walter-Mellott (Clifford) of Slippery Rock; two sisters, Rose Marie Nichols and Frances Gisoni, both of Washington; and grandchildren, Michael Sim, Jenette Sim, Tyler Sim, Sean Sim, Anastasia Sim, Sarah Labosky, Nicholas Rodi, Angela Rodi, Gregory Walter II, Emma Walter, Paige Walter, Caitlin Mellott, Dana Mellott and Dustin Mellott. Deceased are a brother, George Sim; and two sisters, Martha Greco and Mary Aloe. Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 10th, in Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 331 South Main Street, Washington PA 15301.
