Alice Ruth Engle

Alice Ruth Engle, 87, of Washington, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, in Donnell House. She was born August 10, 1924, in Washington, daughter of John Bayard and Edna Headley Knestrick. Mrs. Engle graduated from Washington High School in 1942. She worked at Caldwell’s Department Store in the 1940s and as a housekeeper at Presbyterian Home from 1978 until 1983. Mrs. Engle enjoyed crocheting, cooking and being with her grandchildren. She was a member of First Christian Church. On March 25, 1944, she married Joseph Harold Engle, who died November 30, 1977. Surviving are two sons, James R. (Pamela) Engle of Washington and Joseph B. (Darlene) Engle of Avella; a daughter, Linda Rossi of Canonsburg; nine grandchildren, Jodi Newman, Jeffrey Engle, Angela Rossi, Joe Engle, Mark Rossi, Jayme Pilarski, Leslie Christ, Joshua Engle and Tara Reeder; and 18 great-grandchildren. Deceased are a sister, Edith Ward; brothers, James and Denton Knestrick; and a son-in-law, Ronald Rossi. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 14th, with Rev. Stephen Smythers officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Christian Church, 615 East Beau Street, Washington, PA 15301. .
