Robert Lindsay Burns, 78, of Washington, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, in his residence. He had been in failing health.
He was born April 28, 1933, in Washington, son of Robert W. and Gertrude Window Burns.
Mr. Burns was a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College. He was a history teacher at McGuffey High School and was also a home school visitor.
Mr. Burns was a member of Laboratory Presbyterian Church, Sunset Lodge 623, the Arms Club, NRA, VFW 191 in Canonsburg, and American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
During the Korean War, he served as a language specialist and Russian interpreter in the Air Force. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He served four years and was honorably discharged on February 26, 1957, with a rank of staff sergeant.
On July 2, 1957, he married Phyllis Houston, who died September 30, 2002.
Surviving are three sons, Robert C. Burns, Loland L. (Cathy) Burns and Stephen A. Burns, all of Washington; a daughter, Nanciann (Charles) Eneix of Washington; four grandchildren, Nicole, Robert R., Abby and Emily; two step grandchildren, Loren and Jason; and two great-grandchildren, Peyton and Cameron.
Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 14th.
