Frederick "Fred" John Reyes

Frederick “Fred” John Reyes, 63, of Washington, formerly of North Versailles, where he grew up, died on Thursday, April 12, 2012, in Allegheny General Hospital, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on February 5, 1949, in McKeesport, a son of Donna Schultz Reyes, of North Versailles, and the late Fred C. Reyes. Mr. Reyes was a 1967 graduate of East Allegheny High School, in Wilmerding, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, from the University of Pittsburgh, in 1971. He had been a Pennsylvania Professional Engineer since 1983. He retired from Ferro Corp. (Cerdec, Drakenfield), in Washington, after working there as a project engineer, group leader, and global capital coordinator, since 1987. He had previously worked for 8 years at Blaw-Knox Equipment, in Pittsburgh; 4 years at Heppenstall, in Pittsburgh, and 2 years at Vitro Laboratories, in Silver Spring, MD. Mr. Reyes had been a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers since 1984, a former member and officer for 10 years, of the Electrical Maintenance & Engineers Association, and a 7-year member and former president of South Franklin Township Parks and Recreation. An avid high handicap golfer, he was member and president of the Ferro Golf League, for more than 10 years. He was a bowler, with a 160 average, and member of the Saturday Night All-stars, at Route 19 Bowl. Mr. Reyes enjoyed camping and boating, going to arts and crafts shows with his wife, rock concerts, theater plays and musicals, and was a Steeler, Penguin and PITT Panthers fan. Through his work, his travels took him to Germany, France, Portugal, Spain, Mexico, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and China. His personal travels with his wife took them to, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Aruba, Bahamas, Hawaii, San Francisco, and 37 U.S. states in the east, west, south and north. On May 5, 1973, in St. Roberts Church, East McKeesport, he married Loretta J. Ross, who survives. Also surviving, in addition to his mother and wife, are his grandmother, Virginia Reyes, of North Versailles; 2 sons, Timothy Frederick (Caitlin) Reyes, of Wallingford, PA and Mark Joseph (Shelby) Reyes, of Pittsburgh; 2 brothers, Thomas Reyes, of Upper Burrell, and Neil (Dietra) Reyes, of North Versailles; a sister, Kathleen (Radames) Santana, of Pinellas Park, FL; several aunts and uncles, and 37 1st cousins. Deceased, in addition to his father, are grandparents, Albert & Laura Schultz, and grandfather, Peter Reyes. Friends will be received on Sunday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, April 16, 2012, with Pastor Charles Owston officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer society, 331 South Main St., Washington, PA 15301.
