Victor Hugo Disalvio

November 20, 1918 — April 17, 2012

Victor Hugo (Vic) DiSalvio was called home, peacefully, on Tuesday, April 17th, 2012 surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness. Born on November 20th, 1918 in Washington, PA., and named for his father’s favorite author, Victor was the son of the late Anthony and Marianne (Greco) DiSalvio. He was raised on Pittsburgh’s north side where he was an Honors Graduate of Oliver High School and worked for Allis-Chalmers. It was then that he met the woman of his dreams, Helen (Cassidy) DiSalvio, who survives, and with whom Victor enjoyed 66 years of idyllic matrimony. Before marriage, however, Victor answered the call to arms, having proudly served his country in the European Theatre of Operations during World War II. As a Staff Sergeant and Light Artillery Section Chief for the 904th Field Artillery Battalion; 79th Infantry Division, Victor’s military endeavors took him through Normandy, northern France, the Rhineland, and central Europe. For his meritorious service, Victor was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars. Soon after his honorable discharge, Victor and Helen were married and relocated to the town of his birth where he entered the paint and hardware business at the urging of his uncle. Ultimately, Victor’s management career in retail and commercial paint spanned over 30 years. He retired in 1981 leaving behind a well established reputation as a generous and conscientious business man. So great was his capacity for love that he adopted 2 sons in mid-life; Stephen Victor DiSalvio of Follansbee, WV and Greg Neil DiSalvio of Washington, PA; both of whom survive. In addition, Victor is sadly missed by his devoted grandchildren; Timothy Neil of Pittsburgh, Elisabeth Ann of Washington, Lauren Paige of Washington and Stephanie Jane of Powhattan Point, OH. Furthermore, the pain of Victor’s loss reaches his extended family including; Kathleen, Adam, Ethan, Sarah, Nathan, Ashley, Shane and Amber Evans; Melinda, Patrick and Spencer Bryner as well as many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Victor was preceded in death by his brother Vincent and sister Cornelia. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 21st, in Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
