Arthur P. Bristor, 67, of Washington, passed away at Noon on April 21, 2012, in his residence, after a lengthy and hard fought battle with Cancer.
He was born on March 7, 1945, in Washington, a son of the late Halden and Cecelia Carroll Bristor.
Mr. Bristor was a 1963 graduate of Trinity High School. Shortly after graduating, he went to work at Jessop Steel, where he worked for almost 40 years, until his retirement in 2006. He also had a landscaping and tree removal service for many years.
He also enjoyed raising cattle, baling hay, and all things related to farming, until his health did not permit it anymore.
A social member of the Greene County Veteran’s Club, he was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 461, in Waynesburg.
Mr. Bristor had many passions, one of which was his love for hunting. He also enjoyed being able to blend in, and watch and study the behavior of animals. He loved the game of pool, and had many trophies for his excellent shooing skills, having made 2 trips to Las Vegas to compete in the National Championships. Mostly, however, he enjoyed the friends he made throughout the years.
His biggest passion, was teaching baseball, and watching his son, Levi play, and later become a coach. It was very special for them to work together while teaching the game. He was proud of all his baseball boys, and all they were able to teach.
Through baseball, he met Mike Songer, who became his nearest and dearest friend. Mike always had a way of lifting Art’s spirits up when he was at his lowest point. The family will always be grateful to Mike and his wife Jane Ann.
On October 7, 1998, he married Sherry Jackson, who survives.
Also surviving, are a daughter, Jackie (Mike) Garcia, of Washington; 2 sons, Thomas (Becky) Bristor, of Amity, and Sean Levi (Marissa) Bristor, of Washington; 5 grandchildren, Abby Jo Bristor, of Amity, Cecelia Bristor, of Washington, Kristen (Jason) Mellinger, of Tuscon, AZ; Rachel Dean, of Phoenix, AZ, and Alisha Dean, of Washington; 4 step grandchildren, Brandon and Amber Crawford, of Amity, Joe Risbin, of Arizona, and Tabitha Risbin Cain, of Washington; 2 great grandchildren, Fiona and Ezekiel, of Arizona; 3 step great grandchildren, Landon and Paige, of Arizona and Jacob, of Washington; his first wife, Roberta Murphy Jackson, as well as 2 nephews, a niece and their families.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a son, Artie, a brother, Halden Wayne, and his second wife, Marjorie Harris Bristor,
Friends will be received on Sunday, from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where additional visitation will be held on Monday. April 23, 2012, from 11 to 1 p.m., the time of services, with Rev. Duane Wolfe officiating.
Burial will follow at Lone Pine Cemetery.
