Doris Marie Salat, 89, of Washington, died Monday, May 28, 2012, in Humbert Lane Health Care Center.
She was born September 22, 1922, in Byesville, Ohio, daughter of Enoch and Elizabeth Syme Wootton.
Mrs. Salat was a graduate of Community High School, Trail Run, Ohio. During World War II, she was a Civil Service employee at Camp Blanding, Florida, where she worked as a spotter and assistant to the camp commander. In the 1950s, she owned and operated a coalmine in Kentucky.
Mrs. Salat loved to tell stories and write and had several articles published in magazines.
Mrs. Salat was a former regent of the Women of the Moose.
On August 21, 1947, she married John F. Salat, who died November 5, 1979.
Surviving are two sons, Andy Salat of Claysville and Walter L. Lloyd of Red Oak, Texas; five grandchildren, Dawn Clark, Kristen Lloyd, Matthew Lloyd, Adam Salat and Rebecca Salat; and six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Taylor and Jordan Clark, Alissia, Christine and Sara Lloyd.
Deceased are three brothers, Geoffrey, Bryon and Alfred Wootton.
Friends will be received Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 1, 2012, with Rev. John Wootton officiating. Burial will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray.
