Cecil Sherman Allen, 81, of Claysville, died on Saturday, June 2, 2012, in the Donnell House.
He was born on April 23, 1931, in Washington County, a son of Tony and Ida May Dille Allen.
He was a member of the Taylorstown Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Allen was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served with the 69th Ammunition Ordnance Company, during the Korean War. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, a Meritorious Unit Citation and the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star. He received an honorable discharge on October 14, 1954.
Mr. Allen worked for 39 years at Millcraft Industries, and had previously worked in construction as a laborer.
He had been an active member of the Hunt-Kennedy Post 639 of the Claysville American Legion, for 49 years.
He enjoyed gardening.
On January 23, 1972, he married Shirley Ashmore Culbertson, who survives.
Also surviving are 3 sons, Eric (Lisa) Allen, of Washington; James B. (Crystal) Culbertson, of Jacksonville, FL; David L. (Kathy) Culbertson, of Claysville; a daughter, Debby (Dale) Radosevich, of Wheeling, WV; 2 brothers, James T. Allen, of Canonsburg and Lloyd (Dianna) Allen, of Washington; 8 grandchildren, Jeff, Lisa, Matt, Liz, Tori, Taylar, Eric and Heather; and 2 great grandchildren, Cameron and Brooke.
Deceased are 2 brothers, LeRoy Allen and Everett Allen, and a sister, Louise Powell.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Taylorstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Main St., Taylorstown, at 3:00 p.m., on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, with Rev. Patricia Lutz officiating. Burial, in the Claysville Cemetery, will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Military Honors will be accorded at the church, immediately following the service, by the Hunt-Kennedy Post 639 of the Claysville American Legion.
