Marion Rhoda Taylor, 79, of Washington, died Saturday, June 2, 2012, in Washington Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born on May 21, 1933, in Hopewell, Green County, a daughter of Ralph and Althea Hitchcock Phillips.
On November 16, 1952, she married Raymond Taylor, who died on February 7, 1978.
Mrs. Taylor was a former lab employee at Brockway Glass No. 11, and had also worked in a clerical position at both Mayview and Woodville State Hospitals. She was a long time volunteer at the Washington Women’s Shelter and Citizens Library. Mrs. Taylor was co-founder and member of the Citizens’ Library Mystery Book Club, a member of the Washington Senior Bowling League, Wash High Gang of 1951 and a member of Mensa. She enjoyed gardening, the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzles, reading, and watching her children and grandchildren’s school and sports activities.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Brice, and grandson, Graham Metz.
Surviving are a son, Ralph Taylor; three daughters, Theadiane ( John ) Gompers of Wheeling, Melissa ( Ralph ) Metz of East Finley, and Laura ( Andrew ) Monaco of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren, Sarah Metz (Dan) Hancock, Ellen Metz, Drew and Gina Monaco; and two great-grandchildren, Valerie and Annalise Hancock; as well as several cousins.
Friends of Marion Rhoda Taylor, 79, of Washington, who died Saturday, June 2, 2012, will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, where services will be held on Friday, June 8, 2012, at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery, Greene County.
