James "Jazz" Lewis, Jr.

James “Jazz” Lewis, Jr., 79, of St. Louis, MO, formerly of Washington, passed away peacefully, in his home, on Friday, July 6, 2012, due to natural causes. He was born August 25, 1932, in Bellaire, OH, the oldest son of the late James Lewis, Sr. and Christine Willis Lewis. After graduating from Trinity High School in 1952, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he fought in the Korean War. Mr. Lewis spent 30 years working for Chrysler Corporation, which catered to his love of cars. He was a member of the Masonic Temple #39. He was the loving father of Carla (Quinton) Lewis Robinson and James Lewis, III, children of Leola Pollard Lewis, all of Atlanta, GA; also surviving are a brother, Isaac (Bessie) Lewis, of Starksville, MS, 3 sisters, Fredda (John) Nelson, of Washington, Beverly (Leonard) Mohead, of Chicago, IL, and Joyce (Jerome) Nixon, of Washington; 3 grandchildren, Karley Lewis, Rashad Moore and Xavier Robinson, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. He was well loved by his family and friends. Preceding him in death were 2 sons, Reginald James Lewis and Glenn Lewis. Public visitation was held at the Wade Funeral Home, in St, Louis, on July 10. Friends will be received on Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Richard D. White, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside, by the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
