Nellie Stella Kapis Horency, 98, of Washington, died Friday, July 27, 2012, in Presbyterian Senior Care.
She was born September 28, 1913, in Bentleyville, a daughter of John and Frances Haniak Kapis.
Mrs. Horency was a homemaker and at one time worked as a packer at Duncan-Miller Glass for three years.
Mrs. Horency had been a very active member of Holy Trinity National Catholic Church for many years, running the pierogi-making project for more than 30 years, was a member of the Ladies Adoration Society of the church, and was a Cub Scout den mother for many years.
On September 16, 1939, she married Joseph Stephen Horency, who died November 5, 2005.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph (Violet) Horency, of LaGrange, Ohio, and Stanley (Madelyn) Horency and Edward (Bonnie) Horency, both of Washington; a brother, Dan Kapis, of Canonsburg; seven grandchildren, Justine Morris, Joseph Stephen Horency III, Kirk Horency, Steven Horency, Denise Kapp, Eric Horency, and April Horency; and six great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Deceased are three sisters, Adele P. Kapis, Jean F. Kapis, and Pauline Kapis; and two brothers, Kazimer A. Kapis, Sr. and Joseph Kapis.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2012, in Holy Trinity National Catholic Church, with Father Mark Swoger, as celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity National Catholic Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to Holy Trinity National Catholic Church, 605 Hewitt Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
