Joan Hazlett Verderber

Joan Hazlett Verderber Flora Joan Hazlett Verderber, 82, of Washington, died on Sunday, August 19, 2012, in the Washington Hospital. She was born on June 7, 1930, in Washington, a daughter of George Dewey and Pauline Wilson Hazlett. She was a graduate of Trinity High School. In her early married years, she had worked at G.C. Murphy’s, before becoming a homemaker. Mrs. Verderber was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she volunteered much of her time. She was also a member of the Christian Mothers, and she volunteered at American Cancer Society, where she received the Inspirational Volunteer Award. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and her dog, Heidi. On October 7, 1950, she married John Alden Verderber, who died on May 22, 2011. Surviving are 4 sons, William J. (Nell) Verderber, of Riverside, CA; Dennis L. Verderber and Timothy J. (Pam) Verderber, both of Washington; and Gregory J. Verderber, of Monroeville; 3 daughters, Suzanne L. Verderber, of Goose Creek, SC, and Nancy J. Verderber and Kathleen A. Lightner, both of Washington; a grandchild, Samuel R. Verderber, and many nieces and nephews. Deceased, is a sister, Shirley Elizabeth Kruse. Friends will be received on Wednesday, from 2 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society - Relay For Life, P.O. Box 275, Washington, PA 15301, or to the Citizen’s Library, 55 S. College St., Washington, PA 15301.
