Duane Kerr Hixon, 91, of Washington, died Monday, September 3, 2012, in Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington.
He was born February 1, 1921, in Vanceville, Eighty Four area, a son of the late David Henry and Della Edna Kerr Hixon.
On September 14, 1942, he entered the U.S. Army, where he was an automotive mechanic, attaining the rank of sergeant. He received an honorable discharge February 16, 1946.
Mr. Hixon worked as an automotive mechanic at Yenko Chevrolet and Tomsic Chrysler. He never forgot the vehicles he repaired or their owners.
He was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion and enjoyed square dancing and round dancing.
Mr. Hixon was a member of Church of the Covenant.
He loved children and felt they were a gift from God.
On June 15, 1946, he married Catherine E. Beam, who died April 11, 2007.
Surviving are a son, Eugene R.D. “Gene” Hixon (Debbie) of Eighty Four; three daughters, Irene E. Batove of Washington, the Rev. Dr. Reppa Cottrell (the Rev. Dr. Daniel Cottrell) of Coventry, R.I., and Barbara “Bobbie” Lucas (Denny) of Cross Creek; nine grandchildren, April E. Batove, J.D. Batove (Dana), Cerra I. Coddington (Michael), Joshua Cottrell (Sara-Elizabeth), Rachel Reichert (William), Christopher Lucas (Clarissa), Lisa Lucas, Brenda Lucas and Heather Hixon; and two great-grandchildren, Zoe Cottrell and Charles Cottrell.
Deceased are brother D. Wade Hixon and son-in-law James L. Batove.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 8, with the Rev. Dr. Reppa Cottrell and the Rev. Dr. Daniel Cottrell officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Gardens Cemetery, McMurray. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of one’s choice.
