John Luther Schutte

John Luther Schutte, 94, of Washington, went home to be with the Lord at 1:15 p.m., Wednesday, September 5, 2012. He passed away in the Donnell House after a long fight with Heart Disease. He was born on April 7, 1918, in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, the only son of John and Anna Schutte. Mr. Schutte was Lutheran by faith, belonging to Trinity Lutheran Church in Bridgeport, Ohio. He was a graduate of Bridgeport High School in Ohio and attended trade school to become an optician. Mr. Schutte retired from DuBois Optical Company, Washington, Pennsylvania. He loved making furniture in his workshop and fishing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Schutte enjoyed learning to play several musical instruments, the guitar, mandolin, violin and piano. In his early 80’s he began teaching himself the computer and became very good at learning the ins and outs of his Apple computer. He especially liked taking pictures and putting them in a slide show on his Apple. On June 4, 1939, he married Virginia P. Hull, who preceded him in death in March of this year. They were married for 72 years. Surviving are a daughter, Karen Schutte Hunter (Edward) of Washington; two grandchildren, Edward Eric (Lynn) Hunter and Stacey Michele Willis (Ron); four great-grandchildren, Brendan and Zachary Willis and John Edward and Katherine Elizabeth Hunter, all of Centreville, Virginia; and two nieces, Jacqueline Vargo and Sandy Foster (Walter) of Ohio. Deceased is a sister, Ruth Schutte Kuklevich. Private visitation and committal services were held at the convenience of the family. Services were officiated by the nephew of Mrs. Schutte, Pastor Tim Hull of Cornerstone Community Church, Dalton, Ohio. He was laid to rest in Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice Care of the Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
