Herschell Vernon Chadwick, 75, of Prosperity, died Saturday, September 22, 2012, in Hillsview Rest Home, Claysville, following a one-year battle with cancer.
He was born October 5, 1936, in Amity, a son of Hiram VanKirk Chadwick and Florence Ealy Chadwick.
Mr. Chadwick was a life-long farmer, raising cattle in Prosperity for more than fifty years; and worked at Daco Machine, for twenty-two years, retiring in 2004.
Mr. Chadwick loved spending time with his grandchildren, visiting all of his neighbors around his kitchen table, and he loved his McCormick tractors.
He attended East Buffalo United Presbyterian Church.
On June 7, 1959, he married Caroline Shrader, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Jodie (Mike) Hoover; two brothers, Paul (Carol) Chadwick, of Amity, and Oliver (Thelma) Chadwick, of Prosperity; a sister, Shirley (Kenneth) Barnhart, of Waynesburg; and two grandchildren, Chad and Allee Hoover.
Deceased are two brothers, Gaylord Chadwick and Hiram Chadwick, Jr.
Friends will be received 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2012, with Rev. Meade Lacock officiating. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery.
