Norman Wade Richmond

Norman Wade “Sonny” Richmond, 81, of Washington, died Thursday, October 4, 2012, in Donnell House, following a brief illness. He was born April 27, 1931, in Washington, a son of Joseph and Marie Shriver Richmond. Mr. Richmond worked in pipeline construction for 30 years, retiring from H.C. Price Co. A veteran of the Army, he served from September 5, 1950, until his honorable discharge on August 4, 1952, and was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal – Germany. He enjoyed golf and mini-modified tractor pulls. Mr. Richmond attended Bethlehem Baptist Church in Ruff Creek. Surviving are his companion of 20 years, Janet H. Rhoades; two daughters, Norma Darlene (James) Finch of Sycamore and Brenda Lee (John D.) Alexander of Durham, North Carolina; a brother, J.D. (Shirley) Richmond of Claysville; two grandchildren, Johnathan Justin Kerr and Liberty- Mecca Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Jake Smith and Rhiannon Mackenzie Smith. Also surviving are Mollie Goodman, whom he raised, and her three sons. Deceased are two brothers, Thomas and Robert Richmond. At the request of the deceased there will be no public visitation or service.
