Robert Paul Staley, 89, of Washington, died Saturday, October 20, 2012, in his residence.
He was born August 12, 1923, in Mt. Carmel, Pennsylvania, near Cameron, West Virginia, a son of George and Ella Isaminger Staley.
A World War II veteran of the Army, he served in Europe with the 6th Convalescent Hospital. Mr. Staley was awarded a Meritorious Unit Award, a Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal with four bronze service stars for his participation in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. He was honorably discharged on December 8, 1945, as a Technician, fifth grade.
Mr. Staley worked at the Washington Meat Market for 18 years and also as a surface grinder at Jessop Steel.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and was always found helping them.
Mr. Staley was a member of First Christian Church.
Surviving is his wife of 66 years, Loretta Hatfield Staley, whom he married August 28, 1946.
Also surviving are three brothers, Charles Staley of Washington, Richard Staley of Galloway, Ohio, and Carl Staley of Lakeside; a sister, Elizabeth Ralston of Washington; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Deceased are two sisters, Evelyn Ralston and Lottie Funk.
Friends will be received Tuesday form 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 25th, with Rev. Stephen Smythers officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
