Frank Zerla

Frank Zerla, 72, of Washington, died Friday, November 30, 2012, in his residence, after battling cancer. He was born, March 19, 1940, in Dillonvale, Ohio, a son of the late Amos and Alice Fudale Zerla. Mr. Zerla was a graduate of Dillonvale High School. On August 12, 1963, he was inducted into the Army and served until his honorable discharge on August 11, 1965, as a Specialist, 4th class. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Zerla worked for 34 years in the banking industry, serving as Senior Vice President of Union Savings Bank, Steubenville, Ohio, Vice President of First National Bank, Regional Vice President of Integra Bank, and Vice President of National City Bank, all in Washington. He was also the Director of Operations for the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and served on the board of Washington-Greene County Blind Association. On June 17, 1967, he married Sharon Kovarik, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Andrew (Kerry) Zerla of Fishers, Indiana and James (Regina “Jeannie”) Zerla of West Alexander; a brother, Arthur Zerla of Hemet, California; and five grandchildren, Nickolas, Laura, Jennifer, Nancy and Noah Zerla. Deceased are two brothers, James Zerla and Walter Lex. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m., the time of service, Monday, December 3rd, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Michael Lenno officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of the Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301; or to Augusta Levy Learning Center, PO Box 6711, Wheeling, WV 26003.
