Dorothy Jean Koonse

Dorothy Jean Koonse, 77, of Washington, died Sunday, December 16, 2012, in her home, following a two-year illness. She was born June 19, 1935, in Washington, a daughter of the late Leroy Samuel and Metta Darling Von Scio Gibson. Mrs. Koonse was a member of Lighthouse Church. She was a homemaker. On August 2, 1954, she married Richard Daniel Koonse Sr., who died June 10, 1988. Surviving are a son, Richard D. (Debbie) Koonse Jr. of Smithfield; two sisters, Elizabeth Ellen Logsdon of Washington and Anna Marie Prevost of Avella; and six grandchildren, Lisa, Daniel, Tara, Kenny, Jeff and Justin. Deceased is a daughter, Shirley Jean Koonse. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 20, with the Rev. George VanRiper officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
