Oscar "Pete" Camp

Oscar Lee “Pete” Camp, 87, of Washington, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013, in the Washington Hospital. He was born February 21, 1925, in Washington, a son of the late Harry Oscar Camp and Hester Hazel Lemasters Camp. Mr. Camp was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving from November 2, 1942, until his honorable discharge on December 6, 1945, as a Seaman, first class. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. In addition to being a truck driver, Mr. Camp worked as a police officer for Hanover and Smith Townships. He also worked at Wilson’s Garage, retiring at age 82. Mr. Camp was an avid reader, especially of westerns, and enjoyed learning about trains in American. He was a member of Friendship Community Church and American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. Deceased is his first wife, Marion M. Ramacker. On December 15, 1982, he married Dorothy Marie Steele, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Oscar L. Camp, Jr. (Susan) of Dover, Delaware; a daughter, Rose Massingille (Henry) of Langeloth; stepchildren, Gregory Lee Burt of Preston, Maryland, Carol Machak (Woody) of Burgettstown, Michele Marie Leppert (Mark) of Washington, Dawn Victoria Groff of Conowingo, Maryland, and Debra Eileen Hangge (Mike) of Ellsworth, Maine; three brothers, Robert Camp (Val) and Charles Camp (June), both of Burgettstown, and Richard Camp of Aliquippa; two sisters, Patty Balser of Claysville and Judy Blankenship of Burgettstown; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren. Deceased are a daughter, Marian Maxine “Betsy” Bailey; a stepson, John Paul Burt; two sisters, Blanche Moore and Roberta May “Midge” Turner; and a brother, Ralph David Camp. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 26th, with Rev. Rick Bruckner officiating. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery, Midway. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Hunt-Kennedy Post 639, Claysville.
