John "Bud" Poland

John R. “Bud” Poland, 87, of Monongahela, formerly of South Franklin Township, died Thursday, January 24, 2013, in his residence. He was born February 8, 1925, in Washington, a son of the late Ralph E. and Bessie Leona Sheppard Poland. Mr. Poland served in the Army during World War II. He worked for the water company before working for Coen Oil Company in account service and sales for 40 years. While living in South Franklin, Mr. Poland served as a township supervisor for 12 years. On January 31, 1945, he married Anna Margaret Garber, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Harold R. (Ginger) Poland of Monongahela; a sister, Fonnie Cox of Arkansas; and three grandchildren, Megan Sonson (Jason), Amanda Poland and Savannah Poland. Deceased are a son, Robert John Poland, who died in childhood; and a sister, Gertrude Leotta McCauley. Friends will be received Sunday from Noon to 2 and 5 to 7 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, January 28th. Private burial will be held in Rosemont Cemetery, Rogersville. Following the service, military rites will be accorded at the funeral home by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
