Juanita L. Farrer

Juanita Lucile Farrer, 92, of Johnstown, formerly of West Middletown, died Tuesday, February 12, 2013. She was born August 13, 1920, in Clarinda, Iowa, a daughter of George William and Lela Leone Hensleigh McCullough, and was raised in College Springs, Iowa. Mrs. Farrer graduated from Amity High School in College Springs, Iowa and from Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas. A teacher for 28 years, she taught in Kansas for 6 years then in Ezel, Kentucky. After moving to Pennsylvania, she taught at Avella High School then at Trinity High School for 17 years. For years, she was a children’s choir leader, a Sunday School teacher, and a choir member of Grove United Presbyterian Church, where she was also a member of the Kitchen Band. Mrs. Farrer was a correspondent for the Claysville Recorder and for the Grove Church Newsletter. She taught music at one time, gave private piano lessons, and was a member of various singing groups. On June 10, 1947, she married Donald Bemis Farrer, who died May 22, 1972. Surviving are three sons, Rev. James Robert Farrer (Sheila) of Jennerstown, Dr. William Donald Farrer (Deborah) of Washington and Jon Douglas Farrer (Susan) of Burgettstown; two sisters, Kathleen Rasmussen of Parkville, Missouri and Joann Pfenninger of Springfield, Missouri; two grandchildren, Katie Elizabeth Hall and Maggie Amaismeier; two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Hannah Amaismeier; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are two sisters, Carol A. Brown and Evelyn Gregory. Friends will be received 1 to 2 p.m., the time of service, Friday, February 15th, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Rev. Jack Emerick officiating. Burial will follow in West Middletown Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Grove United Presbyterian Church, 125 East Main Street, West Middletown, PA 15379.
