Eleanor Eva Mungai Mazzie, 88, of Washington, died Tuesday, February 19, 2013, in Center for Compassionate Care, Pittsburgh.
She was born April 21, 1924, in Library, a daughter of Alphonso and Olida Pancani Mungai.
Mrs. Mazzie was a graduate of Union High School and Penn Commercial.
She worked primarily in bookkeeping and accounting. Her employers included Jack Hart Men’s Store, J.C. Penney’s, the Social Security Administration and a local Steel Manufacturer as well as the Washington School District, where she worked as a teacher’s aid. She also worked at a local steel factory in accounting.
Mrs. Mazzie was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and its Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters of America , Democratic Women and Vittoria Lodge of Italian Sons and Daughters of America (ISDA), where she was currently serving as president. She was a longtime Girl Scout leader and member of Catholic Daughters of America.
On October 17, 1954, she married Joseph C. Mazzie, who died September 22, 1966.
Surviving are two daughters, Catherine Mazzie (John) Witsberger of Eighty Four and Deborah Mazzie (Allen) Lages of Peters Township; and five grandchildren, Elise Clare, Jonathan Joseph and Anna Catherine Witsberger and Elena Kathryn and Anthony Michael Lages.
Deceased are two brothers, Charles and Nello Mungai.
Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 23rd in Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
