Surrounded by the love, respect and admiration of all five of her children, Sara Jane Headley Ahwesh, 87, ascended into heaven on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Tidewell Bradenton Hospice House in Bradenton, Florida.
Born on August 23, 1925, in Brock, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Ahwesh was the daughter of Albert E. Headley and Vada Lemley Headley, and sister of Genevieve Headley Murray and James R. Headley, all of whom are deceased. Her husband of 39 years, Mageed Ahwesh, died on June 30, 1990.
Surviving are her greatest joys, her five children: Mrs. Elaine Ahwesh Frank (John Frank) of Springfield, Virginia; Mrs. Jean Ahwesh (Larry Kuremsky) of Wexford; Ms. Sally Ahwesh Russell of Elkins, West Virginia; Mrs. Mary Beth Ahwesh Borroni (Frank Borroni) of College Station, Texas; and Michael Ahwesh (Carol Breeze) of Brandon, Florida.
In addition to her five children, Jane is survived by eleven grandchildren: Justin Frank of Springfield, Virginia; Julie Frank Stowell of Norfolk, Virginia; William Russell of Elkins, West Virginia; Michael Russell of Wickenburg, Arizona; Andrew Kuremsky of State College, Pennsylvania; Connor Kuremsky of Palo Alto, California; Captain Philip Borroni of Boston, Massachusetts; Lieutenant Elizabeth Borroni of Little Rock, Arkansas; Samuel Borroni of College Station, Texas; Khoury and Jacob Ahwesh of Brandon, Florida; and a great granddaughter, Lilly Russell of Wickenburg, Arizona.
Also surviving are Ruth and May Ahwesh, sisters-in-law, of McMurray and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Jane graduated from Trinity High School in 1944 and Canonsburg Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. As a registered nurse, she practiced compassionately and with gentle strength for RCA in Meadow Lands, PA, the Canonsburg High School and South Hills Convalescent Center in McMurray.
Jane volunteered for the American Red Cross during natural disasters and for Meals on Wheels in Bradenton, Florida, helping her peers. She was dispatched anywhere in Manatee County, calming the nerves of the elderly, many of whom were younger than she.
An avid fan of the Tampa Bay Rays, Jane could quote any number of stats and standings of her favorite baseball team. She also made it a point to see the Pittsburgh Pirates at McKecknie Field every year. Jane enjoyed playing cards with good friends and family, baking and cooking and enjoyed watching her grandkids play ball.
She was an active member of the Church of the Covenant in Washington for 50 years and the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bradenton for 30 years.
Friends will be received Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with a brief service following. Interment will be private.
