Paul Conway Briggs

Paul Conway Briggs, 77, a longtime resident of South Franklin Township, died Friday, May 17, 2013, in Presbyterian Senior Care. He was born July 15, 1935, in Lone Pine, a son of the late Lester and Opal Kelley Briggs. Mr. Briggs attended Chestnut Ridge, Somerset and McClay Elementary Schools and Trinity High School. He was a thirty-year employee of National Annealing Box, retiring in 1981. Following retirement, he operated his own excavation business for 15 years. Mr. Briggs loved music and at an early age taught himself to play the guitar. He played in several bands in the eastern United States, frequently Wheeling, West Virginia and many local places. Mr. Briggs enjoyed restoring and showing many antique automobiles. He was a member of the Steam Engine Association and Loyal Order of Moose, Washington. On June 18, 1955, he married Emily Johnson, who died January 7, 2004. Surviving are two sons, Eric and Darryl Briggs, both of Washington; a foster daughter, Vicki Brooks of Crystal River, Florida; four grandsons, Justin and Tyler Briggs of Taylorstown and Michael and Brad Hudak of Crystal River, Florida; a granddaughter, Erica Briggs; three great-grandchildren, Love', Kwondre’ and Rakiyah Porter; and three sisters, Bernice Condit, Virginia Patten and Norma Bayne, all of Washington Deceased are a brother, Kenneth Lloyd Briggs, and a sister, Elda Graham. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 21st, with Pastor Linda Mankey officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 331 South Main Street, Washington, PA 15301.
