David H. Farrer, Jr.

David H. Farrer, Jr., 83, of Washington, died on Saturday, May 25, 2013, in the Washington County Health Center. He was born on February 16, 1930, in West Middletown, a son of David H. Farrer, Sr., and Mary Cunningham Farrer. He was a 1947 graduate of Trinity High School. Mr. Farrer was a 50-year member of Chartiers Crossroads United Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and youth leader. He was a 50-year member of the Claysville American Legion, after serving 4 years in the U.S. Navy. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Farrer served from October 25, 1950, until his honorable discharge on August 9, 1954. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. Dave Farrer was owner and operator of Farrer’s Retail Meats in Washington for several years. He especially enjoyed playing, coaching and umpiring baseball, and was a Cub Scout Pack Leader. On April 25, 1953, he married Irene C. Cokel, who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, David Michael (Christine) Farrer, of Elgin, SC; Dennis J. (Jackie) Farrer, of McDonald; and Daniel H. (Ann) Farrer, of Lexington, KY; a daughter, Darla I. Straw, of Cecil; a brother, Larry (Roberta) Farrer, of Columbia, TN; 11 grandchildren, Bonnie, Stacey, Kelly, Nicole, Adam, Jennifer, Jason, Jeffrey, Emily, Madeleine and Fiona; 9 great-grandchildren, Madison, Brice, A.J., Shelby, Nicholas, Adrianna, Aubrey, Christopher and Cameryn. Deceased is a sister, Geraldine Halley. Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where services will be held at 9:00 a.m., on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, with Rev. Scott Bunting officiating. Burial will follow in West Middletown Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Hunt-Kennedy Post 639.
