Shirley Joanne Davis, 77, of Washington, died Friday, May 31, 2013, in the Washington Hospital, following a brief illness. She was born December 18, 1935, in Washington, a daughter of Roy Fielder and Opal Elizabeth Riggle Fielder. Mrs. Davis was a graduate of Trinity High School and St. Joseph School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse at Western Center for nine years and also at the Washington Hospital, and retired from the Washington County Health Center, where she had worked as a nursing supervisor. Mr. Davis was an active and long time supporter of Relay for Life as well as the Alzheimer’s Association. She enjoyed going on cruises, sewing, and her dog, Molly Mae. On December 20, 1957, she married Robert Ralph Davis, who died March 27, 1980. Surviving are two sons, Robert A. Davis (Dianna) of North Carolina, and William M. Davis (Mary) of Tarpon Springs, Florida; a daughter, Jenny L. Davis (fiancé Corey Sampson) of Washington; a brother Edward Carr (Becky) of Meadville; a sister, Connie L. Metz of Victor, New York; four grandchildren, Tyler, Nicholas, Emily and Caitlin Davis; a great-grandchild, Colten Patrick Sampson; a cousin, Mary Jo Forrest; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a sister, Bonnie L. McDole. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 5th, with Rev. Paul Harrington officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, 331 South Main Street, Washington, PA 15301.
