Edward J Borkowski

Edward J. Borkowski, 88 of Washington, died Friday, June 7 in his home surrounded by his family. He was in declining health the last 2 years. He was born November 9, 1924 in Washington the son of the late Stanley Borkowski and Anna Balta Borkowski. Mr. Borkowski was employed by Duncan Miller Glass until it closed, July 17, 1953, he than started working for Tygart Valley Glass that later merged with Brockway Glass until it closed in 1984. Ed was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and worked many years with the annual festivals and fish fry. Mr. Borkowski served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He attended Trinity Schools and was a member of the Polish Club, Polaski Club, American Legion Post 175 and most recently Brockway Glass Bowling League at the Alpine Lanes. He enjoyed all sports, especially the Steelers, in his younger years he played softball and darts in various city, church and club leagues. On February 12, 1955 he married Alice Kubacki who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Dennis (Denise) Borkowski of Lapel, Indiana, David (Sherri) Borkowski of Washington, Daniel (Kathleen) Borkowski of Washington; a daughter, Denise (Jeffrey) Binder of Meadowlands; a sister, Genevieve Uniejewski of Washington; six grandchildren, Justin Borkowski, Mandy Borkowski, Luke Borkowski, Daniel Borkowski, Jr., Gina Borkowski, Sarah Borkowski; three great grandchildren, Evan, Julius and Kolten Borkowski; several nieces and nephews who he loved; a sister-in-law Bernice Borkowski. Deceased are two sisters, Mary Jane McCoy and Helen Peters; two brothers, Walter “Fuzzy” Borkowski and Chester J. Borkowski. Friends will be received Sunday, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 11, 2013 in St. Hillary Church with Father Thomas D. O’Neil as celebrant. Internment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
