Edward A. Krizay, 95 of McLean, Virginia, a gentle soul, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2013, soon after his family had gathered to celebrate Father's Day. With him were many of the children and grandchildren he left behind, and whose lives he enriched through his quiet example: Judith Ann Grumbly (Tom), Thomas N. Krizay (Pam), Stephen Jay Krizay (Stephenie), and Barbara Krizay Barlow (George), and Erin, Brynne, Kate, Kyle, Maureen, Natalie, and Paul. He was preceded in death by Margaret Evelyn Krizay, his wife of 61 years, partner in love and life.
Born in Washington, Pennsylvania on February 21, 1918 to the late Stephen Krizay and Theresa (Gruden) Krizay, Ed was preceded in death by his sister Stella Turk and his brothers John Krizay and Ludwig Krizay. He was a member of 28th Infantry Division (“Keystone”), 110th Regiment during World War II, from 1941 to 1945, and was part of the division that landed in Normandy, France following D-Day and fought near St. Lo in the Battle of the Bulge during the winter of 1945, for which he received the Bronze Star. Following the war, he served as a civilian in the American occupation of Japan. In addition to his career as an accountant, he was involved in local politics, pursued his love of gardening through volunteer work with Fairfax County Park Service, and volunteered with the Fairfax County Agency on Aging helping the elderly with taxes.
A service is planned for June 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Washington Cemetery in Washington, Pennsylvania.
