John Anthony Veltri, Sr.

John Anthony Veltri, Sr., 85, of Washington, died Friday, July 12, 2013. He was born September 26 1927, in Washington, a son of the late Antonio and Anna Magnione Veltri. A Navy veteran, Mr. Veltri was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. For 47 years, he worked at Fischer Body Company, during which time he was a member of United Auto Workers and served as a union officer. Mr. Veltri was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church and the Alpine Club, where he was a former officer. In addition, he was a founding member of Canton Township Volunteer Fire Department and was a former supervisor for Canton Township. On November 10, 1955, he married Angelina Mary Ianni, who died September 11, 1989. Surviving are a son, John A. Veltri, Jr., (Tami) of Washington; a daughter, Roxanne Veltri-McWreath of Washington; two grandchildren, Ryan Patrick McWreath and Chelsea Angelina McWreath; a great-grandchild, Aiden Patrick McWreath; two step grandchildren, Trey William Larson and Travis Nick Larson; and a step great-grandchild, Jeremiah Joseph Larson. Deceased are a brother, Andrew Veltri; and three sisters, Rose Runco, Micolina Magnone and Angie Clark. Friends will be received Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 16th, in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, with Father Thomas O’Neil as celebrant.
