Geraldine Ellen Martin, 90, of Washington, died on July 29, 2013, at Southminster Place after a brief illness.
She was born on July 18, 1923, in Meadowlands, a daughter of George T. Ravoira and Helen Mrock Ravoira. Mrs. Martin graduated from Manifold Elementary School, Trinity High School, where she was Salutatorian of the Class of 1940, ad Penn Commercial College. Before her marriage, she was employed as a secretary for attorney Adam Sanders as well as Jessop Steel Company.
On May 16, 1946, she was married to Harold L. Martin in the West Washington Methodist Church by Rev. John H. DeBolt. They resided in Lagonda for 52 years until his death on January 30, 1998.
Geraldine was a member of the West Washington United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She was a Sunday school teacher and a member of United Methodist Women. Geraldine was a charter member of the South Franklin Volunteer Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, a member of the Lagonda Homemakers and Neighborhood Club, and a volunteer at Presbyterian Senior Care.
Surviving are a daughter, Donna (Dennis) Makel of Washington; a son, Barry Martin of Prosperity; grandchildren, Kenneth (Laura) Hathaway of Upper St. Clair, Kelly (Nickolas) Vayansky of Lawrence, Lea (Jonathan) Chase of Avella and Dennae Makel of Washington; great-grandchildren, Sara, Noah and Reagan Hathaway, Emma Hull and Nicholas and Alton Chase.
Deceased are a daughter, Vivian Hathaway; son-in-law, Kenneth Hathaway; and a granddaughter, Amy Bentz.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 1st. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
