Charles " Dick " Richard Coen

Charles Richard "Dick" Coen, 83, of Washington, died Saturday, August 10, 2013, in Washington County Health Center, following a six-month illness. He was born February 7, 1930, in Washington, a son of the late Charles S. and Mary E. Kirkpatrick Coen. Mr. Coen graduated from East Washington High School in 1947 and Washington and Jefferson College in 1952. From 1952 until 1954, he served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant, whereupon he then joined Ross Independent Oil Company, later Coen Oil Company. In 1983, he became the president of the Coen Oil Company, which office he held until his retirement in April 2000. Mr. Coen was president of the C.S. Coen land Company and Ross Independent Oil Company of Washington. He was past Chairman of the Board of Directors and presently serving on the Board of Directors of The Pleasants County Bank, St. Marys, West Virginia, and a board member of Washington Hospital Foundation. Mr. Coen was a member of the Church of the Covenant, the Allegheny Club, Sons of the American Revolution and American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. He was an avid reader and very interested in Civil War History. In addition he was a Ham Radio operator-K3DXV, enjoyed traveling, and loved Pirates baseball. Surviving are two daughters, Holly Ann Coen of Meridian, Idaho, and Judith L. Grove (Steve) of Harrisburg; two sisters, Marilyn R. McIlvaine and Helen L. Brooks, both of Washington; five grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew and Patrick Trapuzzano, and Sarah and Laura Grove; and two great-grandchildren, Brady and Isabella Trapuzzano. Deceased are a daughter, Betsy Coen Trapuzzano; and his former wife, Nancy Leslie Coen. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 14th, in Church of the Covenant, 267 East Beau Street, Washington, with Rev. Dr. Stuart Broberg officiating. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
