Naomi Keirs Boardley

December 28, 1926 — October 5, 2013

Naomi Keirs Boardley, 86, of Thomas Campbell Christian Center, Washington, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 5, 2013, in Golden Living Center, Canonsburg. Naomi was one of ten children of Thom and Lillian Garrett of Avella. She spent all of her life in Washington. In her youth, Naomi worked at the Washington Hotel and Herd’s Drug Store. On December 13, 1958, she married Lawrence “Bud” Keirs, who is deceased. On September 18, 2009, she married Benjamin Boardley, who survives. Naomi was an adventurous and spontaneous woman who enjoyed traveling and sightseeing. She was a member of the Church of Christ and a lifetime member of American Legion Post 109. A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, she devoted her life to her family and gave of herself to anyone in need without question. Naomi is survived by her husband, Benjamin, of Washington; three children, Sandra (husband Arnold) Nelson of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Bert (wife Ilene) Perts and David Keirs, both of Washington; a granddaughter, Tracy (husband Kris) Fuerst of Erie, whom she raised as her own daughter; grandchildren, Raymond Nelson and Kelly Leach, both of Fredericksburg, Virginia, MSgt. Lawrence Perts of Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia, and Austin Keirs of Washington; and three great-grandchildren, Evan and Emma Leach and Raymond Nelson, Jr. of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Deceased are her brothers and sisters, Duane, Earl, Don and Roy Garrett, Juanita Ivancik, Beatrice Demchak, Erma Syracuse, Jeanne Bedillion and Ruth Walters. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her for her witty sense of humor, contagious laugh and soft touch only a mother could have. The family would also like to send a special thank you to the nursing staff of Golden Living Center in Canonsburg for their compassionate care in her time of need. Friends will be received Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 9th, with David Deagel officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
