Robert Vance Caldwell Jr., 89, of Washington, died Wednesday, October 16, 2013, in Washington Hospital.
He was born September 13, 1924, in Buffalo Village, a son of Robert Vance Caldwell Sr. and Hazel Ferne Riggs Caldwell.
Mr. Caldwell was a graduate of Trinity High School and attended Hickory Vocational School for two years.
He was employed as a printer at American Water Works for 15 years, Coyne Textile in the warehouse for eight years and Keystone Blind Association for 16 years as a rest area attendant.
Mr. Caldwell enjoyed playing his Lowrey organ, singing and reading.
On June 29, 1957, he married Sarah Louise McDonald Caldwell, who died October 9, 2009.
Surviving are a son, Robert (Brenda Lee) Vance Caldwell III of Washington; a brother, Judson William Caldwell of Washington; and two grandchildren, Gregory Wayne Caldwell and Avril Marie Caldwell.
Deceased are two sisters, Hazel Ferne Caldwell and Mary Martha Dorty; and a grandchild, Megan Elizabeth Caldwell.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 19, with the Rev. Jason Hefner officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
