Ruth Eileen Carlisle

Ruth Eileen Carlisle, 84 of Washington, died Friday, January 17, 2014 in the Donnell House. She was born March 10, 1929 in Wolfdale, the daughter of Clarence Ellis and Mary Ellen Lodge Ellis. Ruth was a 1947 graduate of Trinity High School. Mrs. Carlisle was a homemaker and worked as a private duty caregiver for over 20 years and once worked at Mellon Bank. She was a member of Third United Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, where she was an Elder, Deacon, Secretary, and Sunday School Teacher. Ruth was President of the Ladies Aid Society, served on the Hopewell Township Election Board for 30 years. She was also a member of the Buffalo Homemakers, Secretary for the Young at Heart Program and volunteered at Presbyterian Senior Care snack bar. Ruth was known to many as Grandma Ruthie. She was past Matron of the Eastern Star, Martha V. Paul Chapter, where she was a 50-year member. Ruth enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren who called her Hunny. She loved watching any sport whether it was on television or sitting in the bleachers of her grandchildren’s games. She also loved sending birthday cards to everyone and loved doing word search puzzles. On May 23, 1952 she married Andrew B. Carlisle, who died May 23, 1996. Surviving are two sons, David A. (Barbara) Carlisle of West Middletown, John R. Carlisle of Washington; two daughters, Kathy (Raymond) Margaria of Avella, Karen (Jeff) Pugh of Chester, WV; a brother, Robert Ellis of Rochester, NY; three sisters, Marie Young of Pasadena, CA, Agnes Smith of Washington, Frances Reese of Washington; 13 grandchildren; six great grandchildren. Deceased are two brothers, Ralph and Tom Ellis; two sisters, Anna Mary Grim and Betty Jean Ellis. Friends will be received on Monday, January 20, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd. 925 Allison Ave, Washington. Visitation will be held at New Hope Church formerly Third United Presbyterian Church, 22 Cortez Drive, Washington from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, where services will be held at 11:00 am. with Rev. Dr. L. Stephen Smith Jr. and Pastor Thomas Bellhy officiating. Burial will follow at Upper Buffalo Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
