Beverly Jean Baer Van Briggle, 86 of Washington, died Saturday, January 18, 2014 in the Donnell House.
She was born March 28, 1927 in Washington the daughter of the late, John B. Baer Sr. and Lucille Wiles Baer.
She graduated from Trinity High School in 1945 and Maison Fredric Beauty School in 1946. In her early years she worked at Betty Jane Beauty Shop, RCA and Hazel-Atlas 2. She was also a census taker in 1960, 1970 and 1980.
She has been a member of the First Christian Church for 64 years. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for more that 60 years, serving as President twice. In 1970 she joined the Washington Hospital Auxiliary, serving faithfully as a volunteer for more than 35 years and served as President in 1986.
Beverly was an avid sports fan, enjoyed bingo and visiting the Senior Citizens Center.
On September 10, 1950 she married Arthur Glenn Van Briggle, who preceded her in death on November 22, 1996.
Surviving are three sons, Arthur G. (Candy) Van Briggle, Bernard H. (JoAnn) Van Briggle, Curtis A. (Nancy) Van Briggle all of Washington; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeff) Takash, Joel (Gail) Van Briggle, Janet (Charlie) Philp, Tina (Scott) Salisbury, Amy (Brandon) Christian, Autumn (David) Sims; six great grandchildren, Raina and Lily Koscho, Anthony and Emily Van Briggle and Kayla and Cole Takash.
Deceased are an infant son, Timothy; three brothers, Bernard W. Baer, John L. Baer and Earl K. Baer; two sisters, Emma Ray and Kathryn Jones; a half sister, Helen Corbin.
Friends will be received Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, January 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held Thursday, January 23, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev Stephen Smythers and Rev. Joel Van Briggle co-officiating. Burial will follow at Washington Cemetery.
