Alexander “Alex” Hart Manning, 99, died Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Humbert Lane.
He was born August 30, 1914 in Washington, the son of the late Michael and Susan Smith Manning.
Alex was Motor Machinist’s Mate first class of the United States Coast Guard during World War II and was awarded three medals.
He was captain of the Washington Fire Department for 34 years. He also worked for Hazel Atlas as a mold maker.
He was a member of the Elks 776, the American Legion Post 175 and the Disabled American Veterans.
Alex was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Washington.
On November 18, 1967, he married Nela Marie Harper, who died on November 26, 2010.
Surviving are two daughters, Jacqueline (James) Newton of Canonsburg, Jane (Louis) Coppola of Venetia; a stepdaughter, Karen (Frank) Hinerman of Bethel Park; two grandchildren, Patrick (Jennifer) Newton, Kensley (Amy) Newton; four step grandchildren, Deanne Hinerman, Julie (Michael) Meechan, Adam Dey, Brenton Dey; six great grandchildren; a daughter in law, Kathe Dey.
Deceased are a son, Curtis Manning, a granddaughter, Lisa Manning; stepson, Chester Dey; four brothers, Sid, Charles, Jacob and Michael Manning and a sister Nellie.
Friends will be received Tuesday, March 25, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where services will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Keith Simmons officiating. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Full Military Honors will be accorded graveside by the American Legion, Edwin Scott Linton Post #175.
