Leyn, Antoine (Tony)
83, of the Uptown neighborhood of Pittsburgh and of Chicora and McMurray, Pennsylvania died March 24, 2014. Born County Carlow, Ireland, Tony attended Blackrock College Dublin, subsequently University College Cork whence he earned a Master of Science, continuing post graduate work at Liverpool University.
Tony moved to the U.S. in 1962 to lecture physics at Duquesne University marrying Rita Bayer (d.), his wife of nearly 50 years. Tony managed several rental properties, eventually becoming a full time landlord. He served on the board of the South Oakland Community Human Services Corporation and was well known for his Gist Street block parties. Tony was a potter, a patron of the arts and a friend to many in need. He enjoyed cooking, baking, making ice cream, canoeing, raising fish, growing his beard and riding his motorcycle with a sidecar.
Provocative yet affable, he will be fondly remembered by his sister Denise Molony of Dublin, Ireland and his many other relatives and friends. A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 3rd, at Our Lady of Hope cemetery in Tarentum, PA. All are welcome at the graveside services.
